Projects
Village Point Mayne Island
Village Point Improvement District required the replacement of three community wastewater systems that served 60 homes and had a combined flow of 15,000L per day (3300 gallons). JRSC Ltd. replaced all the fields and lift stations in the system with new tank pumps and pressure lateral fields.
The challenges of installing these systems included the remote location with only ferry access. Ensuring building progressed on time and on budget required moving large amounts of aggregate, machinery, system parts and labour on to to the island as required, then coordinating activities to complete the job. All while ensuring the system remained operational for our client.

Shearwater Marine Group
JRSC Ltd. provided consultation, design work and liaison services between the regulator and the property owners for the upgrade of the Shearwater village wastewater discharge system. Shearwater, located on Denny Island is only accessible by boat or airplane. The village combined daily sewage flow of 45,000L per day which discharges into Gunboat Passage. The Ministry of Environment required the upgrade of an existing undersized Class D discharge. An environmental assessment was carried out within the marine discharge area. The report generated indicated that the Class D discharge was sufficient to meet environmental protection of the sea bed. The replacement system was constructed using five 22,000L septic tanks with rough filters and 1000 meters of anchored discharge pipe.

Sea Cider
Sea Cider cidery business expansion required the replacement of the existing undersized and failing system to accommodate a wedding pavilion. The system is designed for a daily design flow of 12,730L per day fed into a Type 2 treatment system and dispersed into three drip dispersal beds. The system is finished to be aesthetically pleasing and blends into the natural forested area as the owner uses the forested area for wedding ceremonies. To achieve the desired outcome JRSC Ltd. covered the entire three bed system with bark mulch. The installation successfully achieved the desired outcomes and the field area is often used for weddings due to its “natural” look.

Sooke Harbour House
Located on the water at Whiffin Spit Sooke, Sooke Harbour House is a destination hotel under renovation, including the replacement of the wastewater system. The system serves 38 guest rooms, a pub, restaurant, wedding pavilion and meeting rooms. The Sooke Harbour House property is two acres and covered with buildings, parking and other amenities. Two separate systems were designed, one for the hotel guest rooms and one for the kitchen wastes. Each system has a daily design flow of 21,000L. Treatment is Type 3. Two areas were identified on the site for the fields, one adjacent to the hotel to be used as a green space and the other under the parking area. Drip line was used in the multi zone fields to facilitate parking area and irrigation for green space.
